About the Farm

Mountain View Goat Farm was founded in the spring of 2024! While we’ve spent the year learning the ropes of targeted grazing with select local clients, our chief goal for this year is simply raising a happy, healthy herd of Spanish Goats. There are 60 and counting. We find great joy in the company of so many goofy goats. They bring a unique kind of fun and fulfillment to life that is hard to match.

Spanish Goats are known for their hardiness and ability to thrive in a variety of climates and terrains, making them a good choice for a beginning farm like MVGF. Heritage breeds like Spanish Goats also fit well with sustainable farming practices. Their natural browsing tendency helps reduce the need for supplemental feeds, and their hardiness will hopefully lessen the reliance on medical interventions.

Turning this farm into a permaculture paradise that produces healthy food for people and livestock is the ultimate goal, but it will take a lot of learning, planning, good ol’ blood, sweat, and tears.

“The greatest change we can make is from consumption to production, even if on a small scale. If only 10% of us do this, there is enough for everyone.”
– Bill Mollison
Father of Permaculture

Some of our goals for next year are: hiring a diverse staff, offering targeted grazing services to a larger area, installing permanent infrastructure on the farm, planting a permaculture orchard, improved use of cover cropping, and of course, raising more goats!
